Forestry
The company manages woodland on a number of farms and estates. These days with a different emphasis on land-use, away from production, managing the amenity value of woodland has become important.
Woodland Management
The normal starting point is an assessment of the woodland followed by a management plan. This would need to be compatible with the Forestry Commission's English Woodland Grant Scheme and other farm environmental schemes.
Managing a woodland these days is seldom for profit. Shooting, conservation and just getting a family wood into good heart is often more important. We advise on the work, budgeting and usually marketing the produce on behalf of the owner as well as planning the planting schemes and aftercare.
Much of our advisory work these days involves planting new copses and hedges, giving advice on species, protection, maintenance etc.
Establishing healthy vigorous trees is a battle of survival for the trees; drought, weeds, voles, rabbits, deer. The worst comes last - squirrels.
