ABOUT US

Who we are

John Handy started in forestry in 1968 as a school holiday job. After university and a forestry course at the National Schools of Forestry in Penrith, he worked for a forestry company in Reading. He started his own business in 1984 with a couple of chainsaws, a spade and a Triumph Dolemite. Since 1984 he has taken further qualifications in arboriculture at the UK’s centre for the industry, Merrist Wood College, near Guildford. Having been in the profession for so long and acquired a number of qualifications the Arboricultural Association awarded him M.Arbor.A status in August 2005. The company now has up to date plant and machinery that enables us to take on almost any job that comes our way.

Where we work

The company is based just outside Newbury, Berkshire and generally work within about a 30-mile radius. Taking in parts of Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Wiltshire, we often find ourselves further afield due to personal recommendation and larger contracts.

We have had a regular contract in the grounds of the castle in Salzburg which featured in the Sound of Music. This started in 1998 with an extensive tree survey of the grounds and we were subsequently asked to quote for and carry out an extensive programme of work.

For whom

Anyone who owns a tree - private gardens, commercial properties, building companies, local authorities, schools, private estates, farms, churches etc.

What we do

Pretty well anything to do with trees... from seedlings to the oldest, largest veterans.
